How much does it cost
to install Starlink?

There are three items, not one: the Standard kit, €419 excl. VAT; installation, from €350 excl. VAT; and the monthly subscription, which is separate and in your name. The one that varies from home to home is installation, and here we explain what pushes it up.

The short answer

Three items, and only one varies

Almost all the confusion about price comes from mixing up what you pay once with what you pay every month.

Installing Starlink with us involves three different things: the equipment, the installation and the service. The equipment and installation are paid once; the service, every month, and it is in your name.

Of the three, the kit has a fixed price and the subscription is set by Starlink. The one that really varies from home to home is installation, which is why we publish it as «from»: the starting price is a simple installation, and what pushes it up from there has specific names that we explain below.

First, a check that saves money: if fibre reaches your address, choose fibre. Starlink makes sense where it doesn't, and sometimes a radio link wins. If you are coming from traditional satellite internet, the difference lies in the height of the orbit.

What moves the price

What pushes installation above the minimum

The €350 excl. VAT is a simple installation: good sky near the router, power to hand and little cable. This is what changes the figure.

01

Roof instead of garden

An antenna in a clear garden is mounted at ground level. On the roof, someone has to climb up, fix the mount without damaging the roof covering and seal the entry point. It means more work and more material, and on a farmhouse with old clay tiles, more care.

02

Mast and anchors

When there is no open sky at ground level, the antenna goes up. That needs a short, rigid, firmly anchored mast on a wall or roof. A long, thin one looks fine on installation day but then sways in the wind, and the antenna loses its alignment now and then.

03

Cable length and going through a wall

There is a real cable run from the antenna to the router. Five metres isn't the same as twenty, and a plasterboard partition isn't the same as half a metre of stone wall. Going through the façade, protecting the cable and keeping it out of sight is part of the price, and it is the item most often forgotten when comparing quotes.

04

Trees and obstructions

The antenna needs clear sky to the north, with no trees, eaves or mountains in its cone. A branch that is no problem in winter blocks the signal in summer once it is in leaf. If the only clear spot is higher up or further away, the job grows. It is checked with the obstructions tool before anything is fixed in place.

05

Power at the mounting point

The antenna needs a constant power supply wherever the equipment is. If the best patch of sky is far from any socket, or the fuse box is at the other end of the property, power has to be run there. An extension lead across the garden isn't an installation.

06

Wi-Fi in a large house

Starlink gives you a connection at the router, not throughout the house. In a stone farmhouse or a long warehouse, a single router's Wi-Fi doesn't reach everywhere, and you need a mesh. How many points depends on the house: we explain it in how many Wi-Fi mesh nodes you need.

Cheap now, costly later

Three shortcuts best not taken

All three save something on day one. All three are paid for later in drop-outs nobody can explain.

The antenna on the ground, with trees nearby

It is the most tempting option: leaving it on the lawn because «it already works». With obstructions in its cone, it works some of the time. The drop-outs don't look like an installation problem, they look like the service is failing, when the problem is where the antenna is.

The cable through a window or door

Running the cable through the gap in a window saves drilling the wall, but every time the window closes it pinches the cable, water gets in and it eventually fails. A properly sealed hole through the wall is a small item compared with replacing the cable.

Buying the kit before looking at the sky

The spot is decided before the box is opened, not afterwards. If you already have it, that's fine: we install it all the same, and in that case you only pay for installation. But the location gets checked first.

The subscription

Why we don't give the subscription figure

It is the question we are asked most, and the one least worth answering from memory.

The monthly subscription is set by Starlink, not by us, and its plans change: names, prices and what each one includes have been reorganised more than once, and the residential offer isn't the same as the business one. A figure written here would be right today and wrong in a few months. The reference is the Starlink website, checked on the day you sign up.

What we do tell you when choosing a plan: which one suits your use, and two details that aren't in the advert. First, the minimum term: if fibre has been announced for your street, Starlink is a stopgap and it isn't worth tying yourself in. Second, the public IP address: residential plans use CG-NAT, and if you need remote access to cameras or a server, that changes which plan will work for you. We explain it in what CG-NAT is.

How we quote

The site first, then the number

It is what the service page says and what we do.

We come to the address, check coverage and obstructions from the possible spots, decide where the cable comes in and whether a mast or power supply is needed, and with that we give you a fixed quote covering equipment, activation and installation, with no open-ended items. The diagnosis and quote are free. When we finish, we measure the speed and leave you the figure in writing.

Why we don't fix the price over the phone: because the difference between a €350 excl. VAT installation and one with a roof, a mast and twenty metres of cable can't be seen from a phone call. Anyone who gives you a fixed figure without seeing the site is either guessing or quoting you the worst-case price.

If you are in the Vallès and fibre doesn't reach you, tell us where and we will take a look. And if it is a farmhouse, a warehouse or a building site, before asking for a price have a look at what to check in each case.

Common questions

What people usually ask

How much does it cost to install Starlink in total?+

You need to add up three separate items. The first is the Standard kit, which costs €419 excluding VAT. The second is installation, which starts at €350 excluding VAT, with the exact figure depending on the location: an antenna in a clear garden isn't the same as one on the roof of a Catalan farmhouse with a mast and a long cable run. The third is the Starlink monthly subscription, which is separate, taken out in your name, and which we set up for you. The first two are paid once; the third, every month for as long as you have the service. So when someone asks «how much does Starlink cost», it is worth separating what you pay on installation day from what you pay every month: mixing them up is the quickest way to compare two quotes badly. Once we have seen the site, we give you a fixed quote covering equipment, activation and installation, with no open-ended items.

Why is installation «from» rather than a fixed price?+

Because the work varies a lot from one site to another, and a single price would be made up. The €350 excluding VAT is the starting point: a simple installation, with a good patch of open sky near the router, power to hand and a short cable run. From there, specific things push it up: putting the antenna on the roof instead of in the garden, needing a mast with anchors to clear trees or eaves, running a long length of cable and going through a wall or façade, taking power to a point that doesn't have it, or spreading Wi-Fi across a large house. None of these can be known for sure over the phone. That is why we look at the location and check for obstructions first, and then give a fixed figure. The diagnosis and quote are free, and if the price doesn't suit you, there is no obligation.

How much is the Starlink monthly subscription?+

It depends on the plan, and Starlink's plans change: names, prices and what each one includes have been reorganised more than once, and the residential offer isn't the same as the business one. That is why we don't give a figure in this article, because in a few months it could be wrong. The reliable reference is Starlink's own website, checked at the time you sign up. What we can tell you is how it works with us: the subscription is separate from installation, it is taken out in your name and we handle the activation, so the service contract is yours and doesn't depend on us. Before you choose a plan, we explain which one suits your use, because a weekend farmhouse doesn't need the same as a warehouse where people work every day, and we recommend checking the minimum term carefully if fibre has been announced for your street.

I already have the kit, how much would installation alone cost?+

In that case you only pay for installation, which starts at €350 excluding VAT, and not for the kit. It is a common situation: someone buys the equipment themselves, leaves it in the garden or on a windowsill to try it out, and the connection works on and off. Often the problem isn't the equipment but where it has been put, so the first thing we do is review the location: find a spot with clear sky, check for obstructions with Starlink's tool and decide where the cable comes in before fixing anything. From there, installation is quoted just as if you had bought the kit from us, with the same factors: roof or garden, whether a mast is needed, the length of cable, the route through the wall and power at the mounting point. The quote is agreed before we start, and the visit to prepare it is free.

Is a mast always needed?+

No. If there is a spot in the garden or on a terrace with clear sky to the north, the antenna can go on a simple mount and no mast appears on the quote. A mast comes in when no such spot exists at ground level: tall trees, eaves, the neighbour's roof or the house itself blocking part of the cone of sky the antenna needs. Raising the antenna a few metres is usually the way to clear those obstructions, and that requires a rigid mast firmly anchored to a wall or the roof, because a long, thin one sways in the wind and knocks the antenna out of alignment. It is one of the items that most pushes installation above the starting price of €350 excluding VAT, and also one of the most noticeable afterwards: a good patch of sky is the difference between a stable connection and drop-outs that come and go for no apparent reason.

Can I install it myself and save on installation?+

Yes, the kit is designed so that anyone can plug it in, and in a clear garden next to the house it can work well. The trouble starts when the site isn't so easy, which is exactly where Starlink tends to be needed: farmhouses surrounded by trees, long warehouses, stone houses. There, the typical mistakes are leaving the antenna on the ground with obstructions that cut the signal now and then, running the cable through a window or door where it ends up pinched and wet, or assuming the router's Wi-Fi will reach the whole house. None of these mistakes show on day one: they show up as random drop-outs weeks later. If you decide to install it yourself, check the sky with the Starlink app from the exact spot before fixing anything. If you would rather we did it, installation starts at €350 excluding VAT and the quote is free.

Do the prices include VAT?+

No. Both prices we publish, the Standard kit at €419 and installation from €350, exclude VAT, like all the other prices on the website. The written quote you receive, on the other hand, always breaks down the amount with VAT included, so you know exactly what you will pay before accepting. The Starlink monthly subscription is a different matter: we don't charge it, it is in your name directly with Starlink, and its terms, taxes included, are whatever Starlink shows when you sign up. If you have questions about any particular figure, ask when you request the quote and we will confirm it in writing before you decide anything.

Do you charge to come and see the location?+

No. The diagnosis and quote are free, as with all our services. We come to the address, check whether Starlink really is the best option for you, because if fibre reaches you or there is a radio link with good line of sight it is sometimes the better choice, look at the sky from the possible spots with the obstructions tool, decide where the cable would go and whether a mast or a new power supply is needed, and with that we give you a fixed figure covering equipment, activation and installation. From there, it is up to you. If the price doesn't suit you, you leave it there with no obligation. We prefer to do it this way because any exact figure given over the phone, without seeing the site, would be a made-up number, and it is the kind of number that never matches the invoice.
